Open Letter

Most TLI Cycling members will have heard about the problems B.C have been having with their big events so far in 2009 including the cancellation in North Wales of the Bike Line Two Day event scheduled for March where lack of communication led to an initial reponse from the Police to ban all road races in the region including 17 of our events, however after negotiation by National Secretary Richard Lang the TLI programme at Llandyrnog was partially re-instated and the Ynys Mon events were moved to a motor racing circuit on the island.

Our fellow International Cycling Federation (ICF) organisation The League of Veteran Racing Cyclists (LVRC) also lost an event in North Wales and more recently have encountered problems in Yorkshire and are now working alongside TLI to ensure that we are not forced of the roads of the UK by the actions of other bodies.

Cycling Weekly's April 23rd issue highlighted what some may feel are belated efforts being made by B.C to pressure the Government to ensure that the rights to lawfully race on the road as given by the "Cycle Racing on the Highways Act" are not ignored or over ridden by the Police or local authorities, however we feel that it is highly unlikely that B.C in their dealings with the Gerry Sutcliffe MP the Minister for Sport have mentioned that there is a also very large programme of events being promoted by the two ICF affiliated bodies TLI Cycling and the LVRC.

As a result we have written to the Minister to appraise him of the true facts and the "open letter" is shown below, Cycling Weekly will be printing details and the letter may also be displayed on their website.
