We had 18 riders who were divided into two groups: 10 'Young 'uns and 8 old 'uns to race 3 laps of the 11 mile circuit. The weather was fine and hot. Barry Clewett (Bournemouth Arrow/Collingwood) was again the winner of the Old 'Uns race as last year With Richard Burch(Sotonia CC) 2nd and Nick Williams (New Forest CC)  3rd. Very many thanks go again to all my helpers who turned up to make this race possible

TLI Moreton Village Evening Cycle Racing Series 4

EVENT 6: Thursday 25th June 2009

Yet again a fine night and 38 riders including Carol Tilley(Ride Cycle Works UK), turned up to take part. 5 groups set off in their handicaps and it took 7 laps before the scratch group made up the one lap deficit to make a bunch of about 25 riders where the pace was hot and repeated attempts followed to create a breakaway. Event Two

A glorious evening for tonight's race which had 48 riders including our one lady Carol Tilley(Ride Cycle Works UK) who is a regular competitor in this series of events. Overlooked last week was the entry of Paul Godison of Olympic Sailing fame along with 2 of his colleagues who have decided to take up cycling in order to aid their preparations for 2012.They are looking for more completion in other races throughout this year. Paul et al were again riding tonight and are members of our local club Weymouth C.C. The scratch group joined the rest of the field with 5 laps to go and some lively racing ensued culminating in a hot bunch sprint which had Cycling Weekly contributor Stuart Bowers(Scott UK) just edging out Andrew Beken(Bournemouth Arrow cc) who was again our 2nd placed rider. St John Ambulance were again in attendance for the Riders well being with Terry  and 2 other colleagues. My thanks goes again to our helpers and marshals that turned up to make the race possible. Amani again provided us with some delicious  homemade cakes ably assisted by my wife Jan. Carolan did here usual efficient job of Race Control.

Some early rain cleared away to allow the 22 riders to complete the first event of the 2009 series.

The scratch group only consisted of 5 riders and despite working hard were unable to close the

handicap of over 2 minutes on the other groups which had joined up before the last lap.

A bunch sprint was keenly contested by a dozen mud splattered riders Steve Groome (BJW)

narrowly beating Andrew Beken(BACC) to the line. St John Ambulance were again in attendance

for the Riders well being with Wendy and 2 other colleagues. My thanks goes again to our helpers and marshals that turned up on a grey afternoon.
