National Category C Road Race Champion 2009
Hello Members
This is a first for me, e.mail newsletter, have nearly a dozen with no e.mail address. Been a while getting around to this set up and due to another injury it has been completed. The injury a broken hip due to playing in a charity netball match for the company I work for. I am in the sixth week off the bicycle so you can imagine my wife is going `through it`.
Thanks must go to Peter Washington for his Series 5 Moreton Kermesses, mind you he did cancel one due to a knee operation but was back the following week to continue promoting. Any of you or know of some one who fancies promoting the Moreton Series (must stay under T.L.I.) join up with Peter and he will help you and explain all the requirements to promote the series. As you can see he is really really old. Find attached a couple race reports of his races for 2010. No other race reports from any other promoters. Sandie Radford Memorial Road Race great turn out just wish more would actually enter the race and not on the line. Still modern days must keep up to date been racing and promoting for nearly 40 years now.
Thanks to the promoters for their levies almost all up to date and no problems, I have not been told anyway. This leads me to my next races Bank Holiday Saturday 28th August the R.U.K. Solo and 2-up Championship same as last year solo in morning 2-up in the afternoon. If anyone could find me a sponsor I would be able to have an overall prize or just help me get 50+ riders to enter.
X-RAY FOR MY HIP 26TH JULY `game-on`
Glenn Longland R.U.K. Region Secretary
They have been a long time coming but if you scroll down to the bottom of this page (its a long way) the full results from the 2009 Downton Two Day are here !!
This years Independence race was run on the Worgret Course rather than the previous Lulworth circuit because of safety issues. Riders numbers were disappointing this year due to a clash of fixtures, however the riders that came enjoyed themselves. We observed a minutes silence for Peter Tindley of CC Weymouth who was killed recently whilst competing in a 50 mile Time trial on the Upton By-pass.
When the race got under way Eamonn Deane(BJW) attacked straight away and opened up a minute gap but was soon joined by Greg Shrosbree (Merida). These two continued to go away and by the finish had gained over 5 minutes. Eamonn attacked again and dropped Greg to win by several minutes. Julian Thacker (CC Weymouth) won the small remaining bunch sprint for third place. Thanks again to all our helpers and St John. Alyson France Solicitors again supported this event and provided a supply of Bidons and bags for which we thank you.
Peter Washington : Race Organiser
The final race of this 5th series was tinged with sadness following the death of Peter Tindley during the BJW 50 mile time trial last Sunday on the Upton Bypass. Peter ran into a stopped car on the clearway and died soon afterwards. As a mark of respect to this competitive racing member of CC Weymouth the 71 competitors including 5 lady riders observed a one minute silence, racing then commenced and the large scratch group caught the rest of the field with 3 laps to go and the ensuing bunch sprint was won by Charles Rees ( Raleigh RT) with Stuart Bowers (Hargrove/Scott) 2nd and Andrew Boyd (CC Weymouth) 3rd

Another good turnout with 48 Riders coming to the lineincluding 1 Lady rider... Riders were set off in 5 handicap groups but this week the Scratch group were able to catch a large working group. A bunch of about 25 riders came to the final sprint Charles Rees(Raleigh RT)
narrowly winning from Stuart Bowers(Hargrove Cycles) and Kim Abbott (Offcamber) third.
A correction to result. May 27th 2010 Due to a mix up where I sent the Yellow group off before the Scratch group it turned out that Nick Best was the winner on the road as he stayed with that group when caught and consequently the remaining groups did not catch. Also Kim Abbott was 2nd (Offcamber)
