2009 Region Championship Results

TLI NORTHUMBRIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS SUNDAY 20TH SEPT 2009

With riders travelling from as far a field as Hull and Scotland this made for a good race .The weather was perfect as group one was led away by Peter Sladden Breeze Cycles of Amble the coastal town of Northumberland five laps were to be covered of this Hartburn Circuit so there was plenty of time to catch this runaway leader.Sure enough at the start of lap number two he was caught by GS Metro rider Russell Bayliss and Paul Mace RAF Boulmer the main men namely James Moss Kinesis UK and Adam Robertson NFM were being joined by Hull trio Dave Shackleton , Nathan Wilson Steven Guymer Raleigh Avanti RT.With Dutchman Gert Gammerlin and Martin Hopkinson Fietsen Tempo struggling to hold them .As these closed on the earlier groups making contact on lap number three a pile up occurred  with about eight riders coming to grief namely John Davidson NFM Kevin Byers team mate Mike Milen  Colin Ash Activ Cycles Corbridge Andy Beattie Gosforth RC. Paul Watson Unattached ,big Collin Humphrey seemed to be one of them but later on he informed me that he had only punctured this of course spoilt all the named mens chances. Never the less the race continued two riders who caught the eye were Hadrian Road Clubs Keith Davison and Ken Burke battling bravely to gain awards later on .With one lap to go Russell Bayliss GS Metro took off and quickly opened up a gap of one minute ,only 10 miles remained when suddenly James Moss KINESIS and Dave Shackleton Hull fired into action ,the chase was on could he Bayliss hold on ,with one remaining climb into the finish at Belsay only one half mile to go the leader was joined by the chasers as so often happens he Rusty B settled for third place .The other two Moss / Shackleton fought out a tremendous finish with the honors going to SHACK to end a exciting Championship.
