Giles Pidcock wins Bishopwood

On a night when it was raining in most areas of Yorkshire, we had a dry spell over the Bishopwood TLI race. With no wind the conditions were right for a fast race, around the 6mile circuit. It proved to be an average speed of over 26mph. The prime on lap 2 was won by Airedale rider, the improving Hamish Robertshaw, with Team Chevin/Bang&Olufsen rider Mike Gill 2^nd. The small front group of riders were flying round the circuit doing their best to hold off the bunch behind. They survived until one lap to go, when they all came together. The sprint for the line saw Giles Pidcock (Epic Viner) a clear 1^st on the line, Matt Mannakee (Boneshakers) a good 2^nd, 3^rd place went to C vet Steve Johnson, 4^th John Hopper (Cottingham Coureurs), 5^th Mark Robinson (Hull Thursday), and Junior Luke Simpson (Leeds St. Christopher) in 6^th.

Thanks go to Otley cc for help marshalling, Martin Tallontire, Tim Howcroft and Dave Burrows. Airedale chairman, Bob Pratt and Airedale’s Pete Mason and Jane Ramsdale, without them this race couldn’t have gone ahead.

Event one of the Airedale Olympic "Double Yammy" Handicap Road Races took place on the 6 mile Bishopwood circuit, Selby, on Tuesday night 8th June. 5 laps covering 30miles on a wet and calm night. 50 riders took part in this the first of 3 races, the next one is on Tuesday evening 20^th July and Sunday the 15^th August on Boroughbridge., all promoted by Cliff Beldon. The winner on the night was Craig Armitage from Team Chevin/Bang&Olufsen, Otley in a sprint finish. Peter Cox, 2^nd, of Leeds Mercury. 3^rd place went to 15 year old junior Lewis Barry of the Aire Valley race team. Local interest was Selby rider Richard Reynolds who finished in 4^th place, who rides for the Yorkshire Velo club. Dave Goodall and Andy Noble in 5^th and 6^th places.

The Selby races have been part of a series of races for the last 5 years. Some top riders have come out of this series, who this year have moved onto the B.C Elite division and are at present riding the televised City Centre races. Past winners Liam Holohan, Scott and Mark Thwaites.
