North Midlands Road Racing Series

The fourth race at Harworth had the best sunny, warm weather for years, a complete contrast to the seemingly ever present heavy rain there of previous years. Roadworks also enforced a move onto the smaller circuit which being a slightly easier circuit made for a faster race. This seemed to favour the longmarker group more than the other groups and after splitting in two at half distance they made full use of the handicap to stay clear to the finish where Eamonn Cox (Sheffield Sports CC) won the sprint from Sam Kirby (Retford & District Wheelers) with Lady/Vet Alex Deck (J E James RT) in a creditable 3rd place. The scratch group rode inconsistently with alternating fast and slow laps to finish well adrift.
Lee Allen (Dinnington RC) remains the Leader of the Overall Series.

The third event of the Harworth Series was held in warm but windy conditions which once again made it difficult for all the riders. With just 6 miles remaining all the groups were still apart with the gap between front and back being just one minute. At that point it looked likely there would be a large bunch sprint but the group in front of the scratch group put in their fastest lap of the series so far to keep them at bay with the scratch group only connecting to the rear at the line. Josh Cole (Sports Cover/J E James) was a clear winner ahead of juvenile Ashley Proctor (Sheffrec CC) with Dave Furniss (Doncaster Wheelers) in third. Lee Allen (Dinnington RC) remains the Overall Leader.

Warmer conditions greeted the riders to the 2nd race of the Harworth Series and as a result all the groups recorded faster lap times compared to the previous week. The scratch group were well on schedule to overhaul the rest of the field but two slower laps in the middle of the race put paid to any chance they had of contesting the finish. The front two groups came together on the run into the finish where juvenile Daniel Dickinson (Dinnington RC) was a clear winner ahead of Ashley Proctor (Sheffrec CC) in second with Scott Haggart (Dinnington RC) just cm behind in third. Dinnington RC riders dominated the placings with seven riders placed in the first eight. The scratch group came in just 30 seconds behind the leading group.

TLI/NMRRL: Harworth Race 7 - 4th June 2009, 30 miles
In total contrast to the warm, clear weather for the final race at Torworth, the first race of the Harworth Series was held in cold, cloudy, windy conditions which made for a difficult race for everyone concerned. All the groups stayed apart beyond half distance and eventually came together in the closing 2 miles. James Thompson (Sheffrec CC) was a clear winner of the bunch sprint with Lee Allen (Dinnington RC) in 2nd place and Josh Cole (Sports Cover/J E James) in 3rd. As a result, with previous leader Jordon Skinner having a night off, Lee Allen took over as the new Overall Leader of the League.

Event Five

Hot & calm conditions greeted the last race at Torworth which produced the fastest lap times of all the series so far. Most of the groups had stayed apart approaching the final lap and the field merged in the closing 2 miles to produce a tight, closely fought bunch sprint where Daniel Lowthorpe (Rutland CC) won narrowly from Graham Waller (Sheffrec CC) with Charles Tennick (Yorkshire Velo/UK Bathroom) in third place. The League now moves onto the Harworth circuit with juvenile Jordon Skinner (Dinnington RC) just holding onto his overall lead, although some riders still have a extra ride in hand due to the cancelled 4th race.

DANIEL LOWTHORPE            M1       RUTLAND CC

After last week's washout the 5th race of the Torworth Series was held in the best weather so far which produced some fast racing from all the groups. The field came together with 2 miles remaining and Charles Tennick (Yorkshire Velo/UK Bathroom) timed his sprint to perfection to take his first victory of the series ahead of juvenile, Jordon Skinner (Dinnington RC) with Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC) in third place.

Event Three

The third race of the Torworth series was held in bright but windy conditions which made it tough for all the riders with lap times slower than the first two races. The scratch group made steady progress throughout and were always on target to overhaul the rest of the field by the finish. With a strong head wind down the finishing straight making it difficult for anyone to jump away, defending NMRRL Champion Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC) proved to be the strongest in the bunch sprint winning by 2 lengths from Lee Allen (Dinnington RC) with first race winner, juvenile Jordon Skinner (Dinnington RC) claiming a very creditable third place and in so doing also taking the lead in the Overall Series.

Event Two

The second race of the Torworth series was once again held in bright weather which resulted in a fast race. The scratch group set faster lap times than the previous week which meant with 5 miles remaining the field had come together except for the longmarker group and at that point it looked odds on that they would also be easily swept up in the closing stages. However, the scratch group paid the price of a final lap over half a minute slower and that combined with a bit of extra effort enabled the longmarker group to stay away which on the lap times looked unlikely throughout. Juvenile Tom Saville (Norton Wheelers) took first place ahead of Karen Last (Doncaster Wheelers) and Alex Deck (J E James RT).

Annual Report for the Yorkshire, Midlands Region 2008

Introduction

As you are all aware this year the old North East Midlands Region joined forces with the Yorkshire Region due to the ill health of John Mylett (hope John’s keeping well!)  This has obviously seen an increase in my regions numbers, so a comparison year on year is not really possible at this stage.  However, looking to the future, next year at this time we should be able to get a clearer picture of the YMN membership numbers.

2007/2008 figures below

Year                 Region                                                                        Total number of members

2007    -            North East Midlands Region                         -            291

2008    -            New Yorkshire/Midlands/Northern Region -                  491

Main issues/concerns arising this year 1) Organisers not sending in completed forms/paperwork for their free licences – Hopefully this has now been rectified?        2)Organisers taking licence applications and monies at events – looking to 2009 hopefully after the discussions/emails this year this has also be sorted and all licence applications will be made direct to the appropriate Region Secretary.  Due to the increase in numbers in my area this will assist in making my role more workable.

Chevin Road Race Series 2008

Giles Pidcock, overall winner for the 3rd time. WELL DONE GILES.

2008 Chevin Series Summary

Steve Whitehurst, 2nd overall, first time in the top three.New comer, Callum Sewell, finishing 3rd in his first series. He had a good 2nd on Milby in his first race, then followed it up by a win on Bishopwood, to surprise everyone. The category winners were: 1st junior…Callum Sewell, with a 3rd place overall, with big sister Iona, with some gutsy rides finishing 1st Lady. Over 60 Malcolm Robinson, retaining his title of last year, a seasoned rider of LVRC events. The over 50’s was the closest it’s been, between Trevor Larcombe and Dave Goodall, with Trevor coming out on top.The over 40’s went to Carl Saint, one of the most rated riders in Yorkshire.Thomas Warren, 14, Archie Cross and Luke Simpson, just some of the younger riders who rode some of the series and who all faired well. If only we had a few more of these youngsters, we could have a great little group to compete in their own right.A big Thank You to all who rode the series and the riders who marshalled.A great big thank you to Russell Brown of the Yorkshire Road club who designed and runs the website for the series, a very good job done Russell. Also a big, big Thank you to Peter Mason and Jane Ramsdale who turn out to help with the lead car, line judging and marshalling, without them we would not manage.A big thank you to the Redcross, who had a couple of spills to deal with this year, but nothing too serious thankfully. They are also unpaid volunteers who turn up and follow the riders round. And last but not least, a big thank you goes to Chevin Cycles who have sponsored the last 2 series, providing prizes for the race winners on the night, and who I am reliably informed will be supporting the series in 2009. Thank You for your support, we really appreciate it.We will be putting on 8 events next year, watch this space for the dates, times and circuits. Also, if there is anybody interested in joining the gang who look after the series or anyone who wants to know more, then please get in touch with Cliff on 07790726884.We need volunteers to cover for holidays. See you all again next year.
